Holiday Diet Pitfalls
Holiday Diet Pitfalls

The holidays are a time to enjoy good company and good food and spirits. It can also be a time of overindulgence. To maintain your sanity and your health this season, consider my tips.

ß Eat more fruit. Since you are often on the go during the month of December, there is a good chance your fruit and vegetable intake suffers. Grab an apple on your way out the door today.
ß Drink more water. Again, in your hurriedness, you are probably getting dehydrated.
ß Don’t skip meals. Skipping meals not only leaves you short on nutrients, but it can also sabotage your hunger causing you to overeat.
ß Step away from the buffet table. I love parties, but if you pig out you will regret it. So enjoy the goodies that your host or hostess offer, then literally walk away and mingle. It works, you will eat less, but still enjoy what you do eat.
ß Take an extra walk. Whether it’s a walk around town to run errands, or a walk in your neighborhood after work, fit some more movement in.
ß Get some sleep. Inadequate sleep has been shown to have an effect on appetite control. Listen to your body. Get to bed early some nights and sleep in a little when you can.
ß Enjoy the most important things- your family and friends. Don’t try to “do it all” in exchange for being so exhausted or mentally stressed that you begin to feel no enjoyment. Stop and take a breath, and plan a relaxed day out for a family hike in the snow with neighbors, or an impromtu dinner with family.

Best wishes for a joyous holiday season.
